About the Presentation:
Mr. Wilkens will discuss the economic and business climate in Asia, growth strategies from an MUFG and client perspective and highlight the importance of Japan-U.S. relations on continued growth.
Dr. Farrell will review the complexities of U.S.-Japan business relations in recent years, where the need for economic success and national security raise difficult policy choices.
About the Speakers:
Chris Wilkens is Deputy General Manager of BTMU’s Global Corporate Banking Division and Head of Global Subsidiary Banking. Stationed in Tokyo since November 2013, Chris has responsibility for developing strategy and managing business with subsidiaries of Global Corporate clients. He is also leading an initiative to provide Client Relationship Management (CRM) systems to users around the globe. Prior to taking his position in Japan, Chris was Managing Director & COO of BTMU’s US Corporate Banking Division. As COO, he had responsibility for business strategy, administrative functions of the group including budgeting, analysis, compliance, technology and business processes. Chris also managed the Subsidiary Banking Team and was active in the management of relationships with Union Bank and Morgan Stanley. He was previously Head of US Corporate Banking Division’s Financial Institutions Group. Chris joined the Bank of Tokyo in 1989 following three years with Irving Trust Company / Bank of New York. During his 25-year career with the Bank, he has successfully taken on diverse assignments in New York, Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai. Chris has a B.S. in Finance from Susquehanna University and an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Dr. William Farrell served as Chairman and CEO of Dynamic Strategies Asia, LC serving as a consultant to the Senior Vice President, Security and Facility Management, Office of the Commissioner Major League Baseball, New York. From 1990-1995 Dr. Farrell was the Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Naval War College teaching courses relating to U.S.-Japan relations. Dr. Farrell received his BA in History from Fordham University, MA in East Asian Studies, Florida State University and his PhD in Political Science from the University of Michigan. In 2012, Dr. Farrell received the Imperial Order of the Rising Sun with Gold Rays and Neck Ribbon by the Government of Japan on behalf of the Emperor.
