Join the YPC in learning about Tanka an ancient lyric form with a 5/7/5/7/7 syllable pattern that has been practiced in Japan for more than 1,300 years but only introduced to the English-speaking world since the late 19th century. Dr. Nagata reads from “For Instance, Sweetheart”, a forty-year love story told through exchanging tanka with his late wife, the poet Kawano Yūko. The program will be in English with a few tanka offered both in translation and the original Japanese.

Meet Genea at 630pm inside the Poetry Foundation front doors.  We will have reserved seating for our group.  Please note late admittance is only allowed at pre-determined program breaks.  Lecture/reading begins promptly at 7:00 pm

RSVP by EOD Wednesday April 19th so we know how many seats to reserve.  Hope to see you there!
